    The intersection at West 23rd Street and North Somers Avenue will remain a temporary four-way stop for the time being after the Fremont City Council voted 3-5 against a resolution that would have authorized the removal of the nonfunctional traffic signals and installed permanent four-way stop signs.

    It has been nearly a year since the traffic signals at the intersection of West 23rd Street and North Somers Avenue malfunctioned and were replaced by what at the time were thought to be temporary four-way stop signs. According to an agenda item for Tuesday night’s Fremont City Council meeting, the stop signs aren’t so temporary after all.

    The Fremont Creative District is one of 10 such districts statewide to be awarded a 2025 development grant from the Nebraska Arts Council, according to a March 31 news release. The purpose of the grant is to provide funds for projects that focus on significant cultural tourism and economic development. Projects supported by the funds must demonstrate the potential to attract visitors, create jobs, attract or retain young people and revitalize Nebraska communities.

    A Fremont man was arrested last week on two charges of animal cruelty after Fremont police were made aware of a video showing the man engaging in sexual intercourse with a dog. According to court documents, the video, which was shown to law enforcement on Feb. 27, shows a nude man later identified as Jeremy Lippincott, 30, leading a chocolate Labrador into the center of a room.
