To say that the legacy left by retiring Fremont Public Schools Superintendent Mark Shepard will be felt for generations might sound like hyperbole, but if you pause to think about what he has been able to accomplish, and the people he has influenced, it doesn’t seem quite so farfetched. Shepard grew up in Zion, Illinois, just north of Chicago, where his father was the school district superintendent. His parents stressed the importance of education, evidenced by the careers of he and his siblings.
