CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - York Memorial Park is a historically Black cemetery, where generations of Charlotte families have been laid to rest. But according to several families interviewed by WBTV, and a lawsuit they’ve filed against the cemetery, where their family members are resting is often a mystery. “I’ve stopped going as frequently because I don’t know where I’m going,” Mario Black told WBTV about visiting his father’s grave.

RALEIGH, N.C. (WBTV) - The North Carolina House unanimously passed a bill that would regulate booting and immobilizing vehicles for the first time in the Tar Heel state. The legislation comes on the heels of numerous WBTV investigations highlighting the “wild west” of towing and booting in Charlotte and beyond. Following the bill flying through the House, members of the North Carolina Trucking Association highlighted WBTV’s reporting as one of the reasons the bill received such widespread support.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - At approximately 1:30 p.m. on April 29, 2024, tragedy struck the city of Charlotte. Members of the Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force were shot at while serving an arrest warrant. Chaos erupted in a quiet East Charlotte neighborhood as gunfire rang out for more than half an hour. Four officers lost their lives. Four more were shot and injured. Another officer broke his foot while trying to rescue a task force member.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A WBTV Investigation is getting answers after a truck driver says he was forced to pay thousands of dollars when his tractor trailer was booted by a tow truck driver who doesn’t appear to have a lot to tow cars to. Truck driver Tavari Crawford said he made a quick pit stop at the 7-Eleven on Statesville Avenue and found out the hard way it might not be the friendliest spot for truckers, even though it’s directly next to a massive yard of trailers and trucks.

CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV) - A judge has blocked Cabarrus County’s newest commissioner from taking office after a lawsuit alleged the nomination process and vote were illegal. The temporary restraining order issued Tuesday prevents Cabarrus County and the Board of Commissioners from swearing in Lamarie Austin-Stripling. Austin-Stripling was appointed last week to fill the seat being vacated by Board Chair Chris Measmer, who is filling the North Carolina Senate seat vacated by Paul Newton.
