Savoring the solitude on Sutton MountainPublished 1:30 pm Thursday, May 8, 2025I was so fixated on the grand sprawl that is Wheeler County, so focused on its tens of thousands of acres of rimrock canyons and desolate dry washes, that I almost stepped on a square foot of pain. Dropping In: Mike Peters of The Alarm gone in a 'Blaze of Glory'Published 3:30 pm Wednesday, April 30, 2025Like bad weather, grief strikes when it wants. Short walk, high rewards at Cline Falls in RedmondPublished 2:30 pm Thursday, April 24, 2025My wife and I went to Cline Falls on one of the recent sunny, relatively warm weekends and now I'm kind of mad at myself: How is it that I have lived in Central Oregon since 2001, but only just now made my way to the actual Cline Falls, located just west of Redmond? The falls had been dammed until 2017, but I don't know if this makes my tardiness more or less excusable.

Dropping In: Your driving questions answeredPublished 3:30 pm Wednesday, April 23, 2025This week, Dropping In will try to answer common questions about driving in Bend and Central Oregon, known for its outdoor amenities, microbreweries, dispensaries and affinity for white cars. Is it true that the roundabouts in Bend used to have 15 mph signs? Yes! At least the ones we remember (dimly) from 20-something years ago did.
