Bill in Oregon legislature offers hope for improved water distribution in Deschutes BasinPublished 2:20 pm Wednesday, May 28, 2025A bill designed to improve flows in the Deschutes River and increase water availability for junior water rights holders is making its way through the Oregon Legislature and could be passed this summer. House Bill 3806, also known as the Deschutes water bank bill, could help in a decades-long effort to allow water to move more easily to where it's most needed.

Pacific Power schedules two outages in Bend for repairsPublished 10:19 am Wednesday, May 28, 2025Pacific Power has two scheduled power outages planned for parts of Bend this week. The outages are planned interruptions necessary for maintenance work on equipment and facilities. The first outage will occur on Thursday at around 11 p.m. The second interruption will occur around 25 hours later, at around midnight on Friday and into the first few minutes of Saturday.

BLM campfire restrictions on rivers near Bend begins June 1Published 12:43 pm Tuesday, May 27, 2025Annual campfire restrictions on certain lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management are set to begin on Sunday. Campfires will be prohibited along portions of the Crooked, Deschutes, John Day and White rivers, as well as along the shores of Lake Billy Chinook and Lake Simtustus. The closures prohibit campfires, charcoal fires or any other type of open flame.

EPA lifts emergency order as Warm Springs water system stabilizesPublished 3:01 pm Friday, May 23, 2025For much of this decade water delivery systems on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation suffered from repeated failures that forced residents to boil water, or go without water at all for weeks on end. Now Warm Springs says cooperation with state officials have paid off - the last boil water notice occurred over a year ago and the system has stabilized.
