College Board Approves Emergency Sewer Project

ROCK SPRINGS – An emergency sewer line repair project was approved by the Western Wyoming Community College Board of Trustees Thursday night. The project will address a critical failure in the basement sewer line involving deteriorated cast iron piping. Chris Dever, director of physical resources for the college, said the issue resulted in the grease trap beneath the T-Rex Grill leaking and caused wastewater to seep into the basement area.

ROCK SPRINGS – School districts involved in the December 2024 PowerSchool data breach have reportedly been contacted by someone allegedly attempting to extort them by claiming to have data from the breach. An update posted to ParentSquare from Sweetwater County School District No. 1 Chief information Officer Stephanie Tolman Thursday evening states school districts have been contacted and PowerSchool doesn’t believe it is a new incident.
Lady Wolves' Isabelle Murdock Continues Running with Central Wyoming

GREEN RIVER – Isabelle Murdock will transition to cross country at the collegiate level after signing a letter of intent to run for Central Wyoming College in Riverton. Murdock signed the letter Thursday at Green River High School, surrounded by family, friends, and coaches. Murdock said she chose Central Wyoming because the college is close to home and allows her to continue running.
Western Hosts Nurse Pinning, Commencement Friday

ROCK SPRINGS – Western Wyoming Community College will honor a newly-minted group of nurses and its 2025 graduates Friday. The nurses pinning ceremony takes place at 1 p.m. Friday in the college’s theater, while the commencement ceremony begins at 5 p.m. at Rushmore Gymnasium. Mikayla Wonnacott, the public relations specialist for Western, said 28 nursing graduates will receive their pins Friday afternoon. Brianna Leibee will serve as the mistress of ceremony.

ROCK SPRINGS – A Lady Wolf is receiving recognition for her academic work outside of Green River High School as she prepares to receive both a high school diploma and a college degree this month. Addison Demaret was named Western Wyoming Community College’s Dual and Concurrent Student of the Year for Sweetwater County, joining a dozen students from throughout the college’s service area who have received the honor. Demaret is the only Sweetwater County student on Western’s list.
Rock Springs Council Tables Civic Center Decision

ROCK SPRINGS – The fate of the Civic Center was not decided Tuesday night – the Rock Springs City Council opted to table the decision to the May 20 meeting. If the Council fails to remove the resolution to close the center during that meeting, it will die. However, nothing would stop the resolution from being re-introduced after that point.
68 Receive High School Equivalency Certificates Wednesday

ROCK SPRINGS – May is commencement month in Sweetwater County and the first group walking the stage are students receiving their high school equivalency certificates. Western Wyoming Community College will host a graduation ceremony for those receiving their certificates Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the college. According to Mikayla Wonnacott, Western’s public relations specialist, 68 students will receive their certificates.
Rock Springs Council Prepares to Sell First Security Bank Building

ROCK SPRINGS – While a vote on the future of the Rock Springs Civic Center is expected to take place during the Rock Springs City Council’s meeting Tuesday night, the Council is also poised to sell a historic downtown building. A public hearing is scheduled regarding the sale of 502 South Main, a building better known as the First Security Bank Building. If approved, the building will be sold to Arnim Way for $500,000. According to city documents, the property was appraised at $695,000.

ROCK SPRINGS – The future of the Rock Springs Civic Center has been a tumultuous issue in the city. As the Rock Springs City Council prepares to decide the fate of the aging facility Tuesday night, a group is calling for residents to come together and save the building. Additionally, a loose timeline already exists to close the civic center, having been sent out to Council members last month.
