    GREEN RIVER –– The Green River High School Hall of Fame Class of 2025 highlights a county commissioner, a former broadcaster and Sweetwater County School District No. 2 trustee, a retired art teacher and Boy Scout leader, the first GRHS wrestler, and a state championship-winning basketball team. The high school’s hall of fame committee announced Wednesday it selected Mary Thoman, Steve Core, Dennis Freeman, John Webb, and the 1975 GRHS Boys Basketball Team for 2025.

    SWEETWATER COUNTY –– The Sweetwater County commissioners approved a resolution to lower the speed limits on unpaved, unmarked county roads Tuesday morning, though the commissioners admit people will drive as fast as they please on the roads. “I’ll be the first one speeding on it and I’ll make the motion,” Commissioner Mary Thoman said when making the motion to approve the resolution.

    ROCK SPRINGS — After multiple attempts and several years, residents in Rock Springs can now own chickens. The Rock Springs City Council voted 5-4 to approve an ordinance allowing residents to keep chickens in their back yards. The ordinance received an amendment proposed by Councilman Eric Bingham that required residents planning to raise chickens to keep them a covered enclosure in the backyard or rear of the property. The amendment was approved unanimously.

    ROCK SPRINGS — Northpark Elementary School will close – temporarily. The Sweetwater County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees voted to close the school for the two upcoming school years as the building receives renovations. Students and staff will move to Westridge Elementary School until the project is completed. Students and staff will return to the school for the 2027-2028 school year.

    ROCK SPRINGS –– The four-day school week isn’t to blame for lower testing scores according to Sweetwater County School District No. 1’s assistant superintendent. Assistant Superintendent Nicole Bolton discussed survey results about alternative schedules and the four-day week received by students, staff and parents during Monday’s meeting.
