A Limerick man facing sentencing for a string of drug dealing offences is being kept under strict 23-hour lockdown in prison for his own safety, a court has heard. Ian Hopkins, 33, Fedamore, Co Limerick, was placed in restrictive protective custody at Limerick Prison after drugs belonging to underworld figures, which he had in his possession, were seized by Gardaí.

A land and water search took place, Thursday as part of a Garda investigation into the whereabouts of a missing man who was last seen alive in Limerick City almost four months ago. Luke Price (27), originally from Geashill, Co Offaly, travelled from his home in Portlaoise to Limerick on January 14th last, and he has not been seen alive since.

A Limerick man caught with more than €17,000 worth of cocaine hidden in his underwear is facing a possible 10-year prison sentence after claiming he was an “errand boy” for drug dealers. Evan McNamara (31) was stopped by gardaí on Dublin Road, Castletroy in Limerick, on March 5th, 2023. During the search, he produced a cling film-wrapped package from his underwear containing cocaine, cash, and a mobile phone. The drugs were valued at just over €17,000.

Gardaí are conducting searches in Limerick city as part of a missing persons investigation. The searches began yesterday, Wednesday, along a stretch of riverbank and wetlands off the Condell Road. Search and rescue units and other local emergency service personnel are assisting Gardaí in their search. Gardaí remained tight lipped about the nature and circumstances of the search operation. It’s understood Gardaí remained at the scene of a search area overnight and resumed searching this morning.

A mother of one, who stole thousands of euros from the restaurant where she worked, forcing the owners to put the business on the open market, has been jailed for three years with the final two years suspended. Rachel Kenny, 29, of Longstone, Pallasgreen, Co Limerick, pleaded guilty at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court to ten sample counts of theft from the Milk Thistle restaurant in Mungret.
