It’s been a big year for superhero comics, with the relaunch of the Ultimate Universe over at Marvel and DC’s version of that through the Absolute Universe. For DC, it’s been even more than that. After 2022’s summer event Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, followed their 2023 line-wide relaunch titled Dawn of DC. It promised to be a new entry into the world, with new #1s and new creative teams, but that was derailed by events such as Knight Terrors and Beast World almost immediately.

I am beyond impressed with Poison Ivy/Swamp Things: Feral Trees. Being more in line with the stylings of a horror comic than a superhero tale, the title certainly fits the genre. G. Willow Wilson’s writing, and the visuals by Mike Perkins and Mike Spicer pulled me right into that spooky feeling. Eerie murderous woods? Sign me up. It’s an ideal setting for those who are fans of the macabre. It was refreshing reading something a bit darker than what I usually read.

Catwoman #69 sees a new team taking over from Tini Howard’s squad for DC’s All In initiative. And what a memorable issue to start on. No, I’m not talking about the issue number – get your head out of the gutter. The issue itself has stuck with me since I read it.
