ROLLING FORK-“I just saw them here in town. I went to pick up my lunch and seen them and i was concerned of the wellbeing of our citizens,” said Edna Jones. Edna jones and others in rolling fork say it’s not every day you see state police swarming in your town. Several people told us they saw state police at multiple locations, including mayor Eldridge Walker’s funeral home and city hall, where officers were seen taking computers out of the building.

INDIANOLA-At the heart of Indianola, the BB King Museum became a platform not for national leaders to speak but for the people of Indianola to be heard. The Mississippi NAACP and the Groundwork Project organized the event, bringing together activists, local leaders, and everyday residents in Indianola. While NAACP National President Derrick Johnson and Groundwork Project CEO Joe Kennedy III listened closely, it was the voices of the people that moved the room.

Mississippi workers put in some of the longest days in the country. A new study from Qualtrics ranks the state second for average workday length, based on data from the American Time Use Survey. Mississippi workers averaged 483 minutes of work per day—just over 8 hours. Over 260 workdays, that totals more than 125,000 minutes a year. In other words, workers spend close to 24 percent of the year working.

Saletheo Perez plans to use the summer months to keep young people off the streets and bring families closer together. “We’re trying to bring in programs and different things that will cause families to be outside. If a person mother they’re less likely to shoot at somebody,” said Saletheo Perez.
