COLUMBIA — Details have emerged for a multimillion dollar plan to build a pair of 20-plus story apartment buildings along Columbia's Main Street. If approved, the project would be a major step in the ongoing revitalization of the city’s downtown. Chicago-based student housing developer Core Spaces is looking to build a pair of apartment towers on the block bordered by Main, Assembly and Hampton streets, as first reported by The Post and Courier.

GREENVILLE COUNTY — The developer behind the proposed hotel at Paris Mountain has announced a plan to share part of the hotel's profits with area colleges and universities, just as a political milestone for the project looms. It's not clear, however, if those institutions will participate, and details remain scarce. In fact, the school that's closest to the development site — Furman University — said it wouldn't accept the money.

The second iteration of BloomTown Flower Market at 966 Houston Northcutt Boulevard was the scene for an April 22 ribbon-cutting, celebrating the shop's recent relocation from its Coleman Boulevard location. Originally opened in May of 2022 by co-owners Christy "CC" Collins and Liz Ewald, BloomTown is a traditional floral retailer with a twist. Patrons are welcome to select their own flowers and arrange them in their own signature style.

Like two ships passing in the night, one Mount Pleasant Belgian Malinois was officially retired on April 22, while a new one was sworn in by Police Chief Mark Arnold. The scene at Mount Pleasant Town Hall was a festive one during an outdoor ceremony that began with K-9 Vondi given a warm farewell after nearly six years of service. Arnold credited Vondi for her role in several arrests over the years, including thefts, burglaries, assaults and an assortment of drug busts.

Beaufort County officials will discuss suspending the chairman of a local fire district for misconduct amid an ongoing investigation. During an April 21 subcommittee meeting, county officials voted to discuss "suspending or rescind" Rick Krob's appointment at the entire council's next convening. Officials on April 28 will discuss the status of Krob, chairman of the Bluffton Township Fire District commission, a seven-member board appointed by the county.
