Thirteen local teen rowers from Great Bay Rowing have qualified for the USRowing Youth National Championships to be held June 11-15 in Sarasota, Florida. Normally invitations to the national championships are won at the USRowing Northeast Regional Youth Championship regatta in Lowell, which draws over 1,800 athletes from 50-plus teams across New England. But this year’s regatta was canceled due to exceptionally strong current on the Merrimack brought on by weeks of rain.
