It’s not unusual for alumnae to offer financial support to their alma maters. But one alumna of The Madeira School, a private girls’ school in McLean, has given back in a big way. The preparatory and boarding school announced yesterday that it received a $60 million donation from an anonymous alumna.

UPDATE (4:30 p.m.): An experimental aircraft crashed on Monday, killing a pilot at a south Alabama airport. During a press conference officials said the gyrocopter crash happened around 1:30 p.m. today. The pilot, whose name has not been released, is reportedly 67 years old and routinely flew in and out of the airport. Officials and witnesses said that before the crash the pilot had been flying around and had come in and refueled before flying low above the runway.

About 1,000 people attended a May Day event Saturday night in an open field on Upper Bryant's Landing Road, according to the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office. FOLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — The state has purchased the Foley Beach Express Bridge in Orange Beach. Gov. Kay Ivey, Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon, and the Baldwin County Bridge Company made the announcement of the purchase after the agreement was signed on Wednesday, according to a press release. The announcement comes after portions of Baldwin Beach Express, the Foley Beach Express, Roscoe Road, and County Road 4 were transferred to ALDOT.

GULF SHORES, Ala. (WKRG) — A small town with a big beach is wrapping up another week of spring break with sun, sand, and a shooting Wednesday night that left one teenager with a gunshot wound. FOLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — Safe Harbor Animal Coalition is all about cats and they say there is a cat problem in Baldwin County that they are addressing one cat at a time. A cat sanctuary off County Road 49 in Foley is home to more than 130 cats. Each one with a name and a story. All are part of an effort to curb the overpopulation of cats in Baldwin County.
