People in Western Washington say their bills are out of control. So how do you lower them? KIRO 7 sat down with BillShark, a company that specializes in lowering bills, and found out that many people often use the wrong tactics when trying to negotiate their rates down. Jackie Loyola and her family of three in Renton are paying $361.78 a month for internet, cable, and home security, plus about another $100 a month for mobile. “It’s aggravating just to see the high cost of everything,” Loyola said.

A Federal Way teacher was hurt on the job when a student jumped on her back. An Auburn teacher was forced to regularly evacuate her elementary school classroom because of a student acting out and throwing scissors. A Renton teacher was brutally beaten and sent to the hospital. These are just a few cases KIRO 7 uncovered of teachers overwhelmed – or even under attack in the classroom. “It’s not a safe environment,” said the Federal Way special education teacher.

SEATTLE, Wash. — Thanksgiving is next week, but hosting a gathering and buying all that food just keeps getting more expensive. “It seems like with inflation every little thing is 20 percent up,” said Tristan Kombol, who lives in Seattle. Thanksgiving hosts are facing a cornucopia of costs. Lending Tree says throwing a Thanksgiving Party will cost you 19 percent more than last year. The survey says hosts will spend an average of $431 on food, drinks, and décor.

RENTON, Wash. — As juvenile crime surges in Western Washington, Renton police say they’ve found success tackling the problem. The Renton Police Department soft-launched its new Violent Crime Unit (VCU) a few months ago—a team of six, made up of a sergeant and five officers. Their work tackles both violent crime and repeat offenders, which inevitably ends up including a lot of cases that involve juveniles – including kids in gangs.

It's snowing right now -- and another HECTIC morning commute. Multiple crashes already this morning. Yesterday I-405 saw TWENTY crashes during the AM commute. Troopers responded to 62 crashes in King County. Please take it SLOW and be safe! 💙❄️

UPDATE 4:50: This multi-vehicle collision on NB I-405 is blocking all lanes just south of SE 8th St in #Bellevue. Police, fire and IRT are on scene. Please use caution if you are in the area and consider alternate routes if you can. https://t.co/xnepYywAdU

UPDATE: Checked in with PSE this morning. The wind event this AM did NOT impact the power restoration timeline! Most people in King County should have power back by noon tomorrow. 🤞🏼 Other counties for PSE should be restored by midnight tonight! @KIRO7Seattle #wawx

More than a half million without power still. Got an update from PSE this morning: - Prepare for DAYS without power - Bringing in crews from OR & Canada to help - Helicopter launching this AM to assess damage - Crews struggling to access lines bc of all the debris @KIRO7Seattle https://t.co/UsYdoPUnHt

Thankful for our power crews and their hard work. Our house is chilly and dark - but grateful to be okay! Really hoping the next round of wind Friday morning won’t bring much damage or undo the work done. 🙏🏼 We’ll be live 4:30-7am tracking the storm’s impact on #kiro7. #wawx

A letter to our customers without power: we know you are frustrated. The limited information we have been able to provide online, and the fact that you do not yet see our crews working in your neighborhood, is causing you to wonder what is happening. https://t.co/mv6WPXJeia
