The number of homes for sale in the metro Denver area market continued to increase in April, while the number of active listings at the end of the month soared more than 70% compared to a year ago. That's according to the April Denver Metro Association of Realtors Market Trends report, which covers the 11-county area. The number of new listings stood at 7,062 in April, up 10.78% from March and 18.13% year-over-year.

Colorado's unemployment rate rose slightly in March to 4.8%, which is also above the national average of 4.2%. It ticked up from 4.7% in February, as did the national average from 4.1%, according to a report from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment released Friday. The number of those jobless increased by 1,200 month-over-month, to a total of 156,500.

Friday’s spring snowstorm, though expected, still wreaked havoc on Interstate 70 as slide-offs, crashes and at least one commercial truck driver caused at least two closures on the eve of the busy holiday weekend. Plus, transportation officials said, some drivers have made matters worse by not quickly getting out of the way when their cars skid or spin out of control and stall.
