MORGANTOWN – Playing for West Virginia University football coach Rich Rodriguez is a new experience for most of the members of the Mountaineer roster – but not for all of them. Several players on this spring’s roster know what it’s like getting guidance from Rodriguez. They played for him at his last stop at Jacksonville State. And those JSU transfers have been essential in helping the rest of the team learn Rodriguez’s system and tendencies a lot quicker.

Spring break ended Tuesday for West Virginia University football players, as they returned to spring practice and the home stretch of that period. WVU head coach Rich Rodriguez said that, for his staff, there wasn’t much of a break.

MORGANTOWN – Looking for a depth chart for West Virginia University’s wide receiver corps? New receivers coach Ryan Garrett said not to expect one just yet. “We don’t have any starters,” Garrett said, “and we’re not playing a game next week.”Garrett is in his first spring with the Mountaineers – and so are many of the players he’s coaching. And those who have returned from last season will need to take on much larger roles than they have in the past. Garrett is unfazed.

The running back room for West Virginia University’s football team is stacked with mostly unknown commodities, at least when it comes to how they’ll perform for the Mountaineers. Meanwhile, the one proven player has spent most of the spring practice season healing from injuries. That has meant that a lot of different runners have been able to show their wares in front of new WVU coach Rich Rodriguez, and Rodriguez said that has been a benefit for him and the rest of the offensive staff.

MORGANTOWN – The West Virginia University football players will be away from campus for the next week for spring break. WVU coach Rich Rodriguez said it will give him and his coaches the chance to more deeply discuss the players on their roster – and some who may not be on their roster yet. Rodriguez said the Mountaineers will be players in the post-spring transfer portal, as they try to shore up talent and build the best roster to debut Aug. 30 against Robert Morris.
