    WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - A memorial fundraiser in honor of a Wausau teen who drowned in the Wisconsin River in May is planned for Wednesday night. Lolipa “Israel” Tambwe drowned May 11 near the kayak launch on the Wisconsin River near downtown Wausau. Israel came to Wausau in April 2024 as a refugee. He was a student at Wausau East and a member of the soccer team. On Wednesday, June 25, the McDonald’s on Stewart Ave in Wausau will donate 10% of its sales to Israel’s family.

    WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - Temporary safety zones and closures will be in force this weekend during the Wings Over Wausau air show at the Wausau Downtown Airport. The boat landing and parking areas at Bluegill Bay County Park will be closed starting at 6 a.m. on Friday, June 27 and will remain closed through the end of the air show on Saturday evening. Vehicles and trailers found in the restricted parking area during this timeframe will be subject to towing at the owner’s expense.

    PLOVER, Wis. (WSAW) - The newly remodeled Plover Walmart Supercenter will reopen Friday, June 27. A community celebration is planned for Friday and Saturday that will include food trucks, children’s activities and product giveaways. Friday’s ribbon cutting ceremony will also include grant presentations to several organizations making a difference in the community, the recognition of long-term Walmart associates and the unveiling of a new community-inspired mural.

    STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) - The city of Stevens Point, at the request of downtown business owners, will begin enforcing four-hour parking in downtown Stevens Point. There is currently a two-hour parking limit for a majority of the on-street parking spaces in the downtown area. That limit came about several years ago at the request of the Association of Downtown Businesses.

    WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - A 30-year-old man was hit by a vehicle and killed on Hwy 29 near 72nd Ave in Wausau late Monday night. The Wausau Police Department responded to a report of a man lying in the westbound lane of Hwy 29 around 11:30 p.m. Monday. When officers arrived, the man claimed to have a gun and began running from police. He ran west and then crossed into the eastbound lanes of traffic, where he was hit by an oncoming vehicle.
