RHINELANDER, Wisc. (WJFW)- We have seen a lot of action in high school sports for the 2023-2024 season in Wisconsin. There have been records broken, state championships won, upsets and so much more. Athletes from all over the area have competed in tough games and seasons, hoping to bring their school to glory and win them a state championship. Other athletes have show resilience, taking over games and emerging as genuine superstars.

MINOCQUA, Wis. (WJFW)- No, you're not feeling déjà vu, Lakeland Union and Rhinelander are playing each other again for a WIAA Regional Finals in girl's soccer. Last season, the T-Birds swept the Hodags in the regular season to win the Great Northern Conference title, but Rhinelander got the last laugh after beating them in the playoffs in Minocqua to face Ashland. This year, same story.

ANTIGO, Wis. (WJFW)- For the third time this season, Lakeland Union and Antigo softball faced off on Wednesday. The T-Birds swept the Red Robins in both regular season games, but both teams actually finished tied for 2nd place in the Great Northern Conference standings to end the season. Also, this is the playoffs, where anything can happen. Antigo came into this matchup with a 13-6 overall record, coming off of a 4-0 loss to Lakeland Union in their regular season finale.

MINOCQUA, Wis. (WJFW)- A rivalry that has always come through with exciting games the past few season: Rhinelander-Lakeland Union girl's soccer. Last season, all three games ended 1-0, with the T-Birds sweeping the regular season en route to a Great Northern Conference title, but Rhinelander getting the last laugh in the playoffs to send their rival home packing. This season, Lakeland Union won the first game 1-0 in Rhinelander, and already clinched the conference title.

MINOCQUA, Wis. (WJFW)- It was the regular season finale for Lakeland Union and Chequamegon baseball, with the T-Birds hosting the Screaming Eagles in a Great Northern-Marawood Conference showdown. Lakeland Union came into this matchup fresh off of a sweep of Northland Pines in their final conference series of the season. Overall, the T-Birds were 8-10 this season. In conference play, they were 6-6, putting them in 4th place in the Great Northern Conference standings.

RHINELANDER, Wis. (WJFW)- It was Senior Night at Mike Webster Stadium, where Rhinelander was looking to take down Northland Pines in a Great Northern Conference girls soccer match. This is the second time these two teams faced off, with Rhinelander winning the first match 4-0 in Eagle River. The Hodags came into this matchup needing a win in regulation or a Lakeland Union loss in regulation to stay alive in the Great Northern Conference standings.

MINOCQUA, Wis. (WJFW)- Two of the top pitchers in the Great Northern Conference went at it in Minocqua when Lakeland Union hosted Antigo on Tuesday. It was Saylor Timmerman, coming off of a 15K perfect game, going up against Bethany Lewis, coming off of a 16K win the previous day. The first time these two teams faced off, it was Lakeland Union getting the 4-3 win in 10 innings. Lakeland Union came into this matchup with a 12-8 overall record.

That is, until Monday, when the T-Birds hosted Crandon in a non-conference showdown. Lakeland Union came into this matchup with an 11-8 overall record, coming off of a 4-3 loss to the Great Northern Conference champions Mosinee.

MINOCQUA, Wis. (WJFW)- Lakeland Union hosted Rhinelander in high school girl's softball in the second game between the two rivals this season. In the first game, the T-Birds got the win in Rhinelander, taking down the Hodags 21-0. Now, Rhinelander is looking to steal a win on the road against their conference rival in this Thursday afternoon Great Northern Conference showdown.
Antigo sweeps Medford for first time since 2019 with home conference win

ANTIGO, Wis. (WJFW)- Both Antigo and Medford have been in contention for a Great Northern Conference title for years at this point, and they're still fighting for that this year as well. The Raiders held a one game lead over the Red Robins for 2nd place in the conference standings, but Antigo was able to beat Medford earlier in the year, taking them down 6-3 in Medford.
