Members of a number of North Woods communities competed and placed quite high recently at the Wisconsin Horseshoe Pitchers Association (WHPA) State Singles Championships hosted at Marathon Park in Wausau. The WHPA is a nonprofit organization created solely for the promotion of organized horseshoe pitching in the State of Wisconsin. Blake Benzing was crowned champion of the Junior Boys Division, going a perfect 5-0 in the tourney.

The Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation (WWIA), a national 501(c)(3) foundation, will host its 10th annual Eagle River Muskie Chal-Lunge on the Eagle River Chain of Lakes this Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 26-29. Nine Purple Heart veterans from across the country will come to Eagle River for the event this year. The WWIA serves the nation’s combat-wounded Purple Heart recipients by providing them with world-class outdoor sporting activities.

U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin has called on Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to immediately address costly delays Wisconsin newspapers that rely on the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) are experiencing, resulting in lost revenue, customer complaints and canceled subscriptions. According to News-Review Office Manager Mary Jo Adamovich, who has worked at the News-Review for 43 years, she has never seen this number of complaints come in as she has in recent years.
