MONMOUTH, Ill. — The sound of music is striking a chord at United Junior Senior High School in Monmouth. It's reaching students who say their instructor brings comfort to the noise in life. "It's always a friendly smile," sophomore Emma Feltmeyer said. "It's like the people who are in here choose to be here, and that makes the whole environment better. It's just our safe space in school." Madeline Wood has been leading the band classes at the school for the last 14 years.

According to the DEA division covering the Quad Cities area, more than 11,000 fake fentanyl pills have been seized in the QCA this year. Purple fentanyl powder mixed with the animal sedative xylazine was seized this year in the bi-state region by Quad City Metropolitan Enforcement Group (MEG) agents. EAST GALESBURG, Ill. — The holidays are upon us and one area church is hoping to lend a helping hand for families this time of the year. East Galesburg Community Chapel will host its 40th annual soup supper Saturday, Nov. 18. The event is free, but money raised goes toward Christmas food baskets for people in need. Menu items will include chili, vegetable soup, relish tray, hot dogs, chips, drinks and dessert. The church is at 106 E. Second St. in East Galesburg near the fire station.
