Patricia Chang On Wednesday, April 2, the James Beard Foundation announced the 2025 slate of finalists for its annual restaurant and chef awards. These finalists are culled from the foundation’s long list of semifinalists released in January, which saw 24 Bay Area chefs, bar professionals, restaurants, and bars representing across 14 categories. This time around, the Bay Area received five nominations among the list of finalists.

T&T Supermarket T&T Supermarket is coming to San Francisco. The Canada-based Asian grocery store chain announced on Friday, March 28, that it will open a new location at City Center located at 2675 Geary Boulevard, per a store press release. It’s the same shopping complex that houses Target and PetSmart, nestled just across the street from Trader Joe’s. Canadians will recognize the brand from its 38 stores across British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and Washington.

Google Maps It was with great sadness that the Emeryville location of Chevys — with impressive waterfront views to rival the “world’s most beautiful” Taco Bell in Pacifica — closed in 2024 after 25 years in business. The space sat vacant for nearly a year, and now, finally, comes word on who will fill its 13,500-square-foot shoes: The E’ville Eye reports that Japanese restaurant chain Benihana signed a lease at 1890 Powell Street.

The owners behind the acclaimed (and beloved) Portland restaurant Canard have plans for another big expansion. Chef Gabriel Rucker and co-owners Andy Fortgang and Taylor Daughtery will add another location to the growing Canard empire with a new location in Beaverton, set to open in the fall, as first reported by the Oregonian.
