Eater is a network of food and dining websites that belongs to Vox Media. It was co-founded by Lockhart Steele and Ben Leventhal in 2005, initially focusing on restaurants and nightlife in New York City. In 2009, Eater expanded to a national platform and, by 2012, it was covering nearly 20 different cities. In late 2013, Vox Media acquired Eater along with two other sites that were part of the Curbed Network. By 2017, Eater operated around 25 local sites across the United States, Canada, and England. The site has received recognition from the James Beard Foundation Awards on four occasions.
