GLOCESTER – Chepachet Village has a new permanent addition: a 10-foot-tall Norway spruce tree planted at the Kent Field Pavilion. Planting and naming of the evergreen came about through a joint effort between the Town Council and the Department of Public Works. “It is suggested that this tree would be a symbolic tree for future generations to enjoy and should be given a name for future reference,” said Council President William Worthy.

GLOCESTER – Glocester’s town budget referendum passed with flying colors with one of the biggest voter turnouts in recent years. All three questions were approved. Normally, a little over 200 voters turn out for budget referendum questions.

Mother’s Day is coming fast. It reminds me how lucky I was to have a good, caring mother who watched out for me all her life. Mothers are like that. Sometimes, of course, that watching out part was a bit of a problem. Not that I did anything bad, but, as boys will, I got into my share of trouble. All part of growing up, I say. Always, it seems, she was keeping an eye on me. Take the time we were at Cook’s Pond, for example. I was all of three or four and not exactly a fish in water.
