A massive fire broke out in the office of Asansol-Durgapur Development authority in West Bengal on Monday night. Many government documents were burnt to ashes as efforts to extinguish the fire continued till Tuesday morning. Hours on, dousing operations are still in progress and 10 to 12 fire engines are present at the spot. The extent of the damage is not yet clear.

The Trinamool Congress on Friday wrested the Dhupguri Assembly seat from the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in a by-election. The seat was considered a stronghold of the BJP that it had snatched from the TMC in the 2021 assembly polls. West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee called the Dhupguri win "historic" and said people voted for TMC despite campaigning by senior leaders and ministers of the BJP.
