It’s been a decade since a Turlock couple closed their fish and chips restaurant, and their son has been waiting for the right moment to reopen it. That moment came in early March, when Ann’s Fish & Chips started serving fried goodness in downtown Hughson — bearing the same name as the Turlock spot that closed in 2015.

A Modesto restaurant was selected to host a visit from a national media and restaurant marketing company in early May. Mike’s Grillhouse, at 3801 Pelandale Ave., will be featured on “America’s Best Restaurants Roadshow,” showcasing popular dishes and featuring an extensive on-camera interview with owner Kyle Raymond, according to a news release. Raymond was a longtime manager of Mike’s Grillhouse before he took it over in the summer of 2024.

Sam’s Club will open its first-ever warehouse within the 209 area code. The company’s newest location will open in Lathrop, a city around 30 minutes from Modesto, Lathrop’s Economic Development Department announced Thursday. The warehouse will move into Stanford Crossing, a new shopping center along Interstate 5. Sam’s Club is expected to “significantly enhance” local shopping options, provide employment opportunities and boost economic activity within Lathrop, according to a news release.

The son of a Modesto restaurateur is using his father’s old recipes to reintroduce a salsa that has not been served for over three decades. Senor Campos Salsa is the namesake of a string of Mexican restaurants established by the late Art Campos, of Modesto, across the Central Valley in 1964. Campos’ son, Stephen Campos, was in charge of operations at the Senor Campos restaurants and held onto its recipes.
