MICHIGAN CITY — An ordinance reducing the abatement period for clearing problem vegetation in Michigan City has advanced. The Michigan City Common Council revisited an ordinance regarding rank weeds and vegetation, during their April 15 meeting, that would reduce a 10-day abatement period to five days. MICHIGAN CITY — With more investment in the city’s Mid-Town, Michigan City officials are considering expanding the city’s Riverfront Municipal Liquor License. The Michigan City Redevelopment Commission, during their April 14 meeting, discussed a resolution to expand the Riverfront Municipal Liquor License. The RDC then decided to make changes to the resolution before it is presented to the Michigan City Common Council next month.

MICHIGAN CITY — With a career of helping La Porte County coming to an end, a local leader was selected for an award reflecting her service to the community. Maggi Spartz, president of the Unity Foundation of La Porte County, was awarded the Paul J. Alinsky Excellence Award by the Michigan City Rotary Club on April 10. Her receiving of the award comes from her years of service through the Unity Foundation, which has been under her leadership since 1992.

MICHIGAN CITY — With data storage becoming more limited, the Michigan City Police Department [MCPD] may be hampered in investigations – unless it can expand its options. To this end, the Michigan City IT Department brought to the Michigan City Board of Public Works and Safety a solution that its members said will ensure unlimited data storage and efficient sharing between the department and the La Porte County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
