    The Kansas City Police Department says domestic violence has played a role in a large number of homicides in Kansas City this year, and they, along with city leaders, are coming together to tackle the issue head-on. Since January 2025, there have been 12 domestic violence-related homicides, which accounts for one in three homicides this year. Domestic violence incidents can include partners, children or other family members.

    A collaborative initiative between the Jackson County prosecutor, Kansas City police and the Urban League of Kansas City recognized its successes Friday in honor of its first anniversary. The goal of SAVE KC is to connect with gangs and high-risk individuals and provide them resources to change the trajectory of their lives. The SAVE KC initiative marked its anniversary with a "call-in" event with 13 former repeat offenders who gathered to share how they've turned their lives around.

    Orchid Delirium has returned for its fourth year at Powell Gardens, once again hoping to dazzle guests with a unique and immersive display. This year's exhibit at Kansas City's Botanical Garden was inspired by Victorian orchid hunters who worked to find orchids in their natural habitats. Inside the glass-domed conservatory of Powell Gardens, the display will show off a "jungle of flowering orchids and tropical foliage" for guests to explore.
