    BEATRICE – Beatrice Police seized a significant amount of drugs after a traffic stop of a sport utility vehicle, arresting the driver Tuesday night. Just before nine p.m. a patrolling officer observed a black Chevrolet Tahoe westbound in the 300 block of Court with windshield tint dark enough, that the officer could not see the driver.

    BEATRICE – Gage County Supervisors Wednesday voted to have the county attorney’s office send a letter to the bonding company of a construction firm working on several concrete box culvert projects in the northwest part of the county. The letter expresses the dissatisfaction with the pace of the work being completed. Completion of the projects was far behind the original expected completion date. The company was granted extensions through June 1st to complete the projects.

    BEATRICE – A Beatrice man with a three-decade criminal history has been ordered to serve the maximum prison term on five counts he was convicted of, in Gage County District Court. 49-year-old Michael L. Fitzgerald was sentenced Tuesday to a total of ten years in state prison by District Judge Rick Schreiner, for attempted burglary, 1st degree trespass, possession of burglar tools, criminal mischief with intentional property damage and attempted possession of a financial transaction device.

    BEATRICE – Beatrice Police and Beatrice Fire and Rescue members were called to a two-vehicle accident next to the Gage County Courthouse, Monday night.  A car and a pickup collided at the intersection of 6th and Grant, just before 6:30 p.m.  Initial reports through Southeast Communications stated that up to three people may have been injured…..a female in her 50s….a male in his late 20s and a female in her mid-30s. Two ambulances were sent to the scene, along with a fire truck and police units.

    BEATRICE – A few plastic ducks broke away from the pack, racing to the finish line at the Homestead Days Duck Race on Sunday…..one of the closing events that serves as a fundraiser for Homestead Days. Amy Southwick of the Beatrice Area Chamber of Commerce said 360 ducks were sold at ten-dollars a piece. The top six ducks were the winners for various prizes donated by area businesses. Duck number 405 provided a Blaz’n Grill Works grill to the person buying that contestant number.
