    BEATRICE – A company has been selected to remove much of the asbestos from the vacant, condemned former Dempster Industries plant in Beatrice. City Council members Monday night approved the bid of McGill Asbestos Abatement LLC for a total of $148,750. It was among seven bids received by the city, ranging as high as a half-million dollars. There are a few removal areas not included in the bid.

    BEATRICE – The Speaker of the Nebraska Legislature congratulated his colleagues on completing the 90-day First Session of the 109th Legislature, a day ahead of schedule. Angie Bruna, Executive Director for the Beatrice Area Chamber of Commerce has submitted her letter of resignation to the chamber’s board of directors. Board Chairperson Kenzie Brueggemann says Bruna has been a dedicated leader and strong advocate for the local business community.

    BEATRICE – An order to boil water in the Wymore Rural Water District has been lifted, by the Lower Big Blue Natural Resources District. The boil order had been instituted as a precaution over the Memorial Day Holiday weekend, due to a break in a water line. Repairs to the line and testing of the water followed. NRD officials say water samples that have been submitted and tested have come up negative, for total coliform and E.coli bacteria. So, the boil restriction is no longer in place.
