    BEATRICE – Four companies have submitted proposals to Gage County officials for design, siting and construction administration services on a potential new multi-custody county jail. Law Enforcement Committee Chair Gary Lytle recommended that all four proposals be referred to the committee for review….and the board of supervisors took that step, Wednesday.

    BEATRICE – A road that leads to a state recreation area southeast of Beatrice is about to be a lot smoother. Resurfacing work has been done along South 94th Road….known as the Rockford State Recreation Area Road…..south of U.S. Highway 136. Gage County Highway Superintendent Mark Kuhnke says the project should be completed in the next few days. "They're on track to finishing up on Friday. There may be a little bit of striping and painting on the roads that may bleed into next week.

    BEATRICE – The entrance to a highly utilized public park in southeast Nebraska is getting an upgrade. The entrance road to Hannibal park in east Beatrice is being milled and resurfaced. City officials say that means the park entrance will be closed for about three days this week. Constructors Inc. is resurfacing the entrance and exit lanes to the park, which in recent years has benefited from significant private support in the way of sponsorships and naming rights.

    BEATRICE – Parents who use the pay-to-ride bus service for their children in Beatrice Public Schools will be paying more. Superintendent Jason Alexander says that’s because the cost of the program is rising significantly, for Beatrice Public Schools. The board of education approved increases in the annual rate to use the program, and approved a new five-year contract with First Student, the company providing bus service to the district.

    BEATRICE – After years of renting space to provide services to special education students between ages 18 and 21, Beatrice Public Schools has now acquired a home, for the program. The Beatrice School Board approved the purchase of a residence and property next to Beatrice High School at 2707 East Scott, for $240,000. Special Education Coordinator for BPS, Beth Cordry-Hooksta says it will become the new home of the districts’ Choice 18-21 program.
