One of Jesus’ most famous parables discusses how we judge other people. In Matthew 7:3, he said, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” Of course, this means that we see the small faults of others often before we see our own major missteps. Many people shake their fists and complain about drivers speeding, especially ones on their own streets or ones who are going faster than them.

A recent MotorTrend article details GM and other automakers’ plans to stop allowing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the infotainment dashes of their newest models. Their objections center around the control and use of personal data by Apple and Android parent Google, MotorTrend said. The manufacturers say they can create user-friendly alternatives. There are many unforgettable days from my 20 years of traffic reporting on WSB Radio, but few can top what took place on May 8, 2015, along I-285 in Doraville. Congestion pricing, a tactic used by urban planners for several decades in different corners of the world, has had a two-pronged approach. Its dynamic pricing for certain vehicles and at certain peak hours is meant to decrease volume on busy routes and increase ridership on buses and trains.

Vacation is such a palate-cleanser in so many ways. Out of the grind, we heal and recharge. We can gain perspective, if even for a few days. But we hopefully retain that learning and apply it appropriately in our everyday lives. I certainly try to do this from a traffic and commuting perspective every time my wife Momo and I travel. And we certainly gained some rich insights in the hours we spent on foot and in cars on the beautiful island of São Miguel in the Azores.
