Construction on the Active Living Centre in Vernon, B.C., reached a milestone on Friday. According to the city, the first concrete batch was poured after weeks of excavation and site preparation. More than 300 cubic metres of concrete were poured - a task that took six hours and 30 truckloads of concrete to complete. The centre is expected to open in the fall of 2026, with the city saying the project will not exceed $135.9 million.

A Shuswap man is facing a charge of second-degree murder following a year-long homicide investigation by police. B.C. RCMP announced on Saturday that the BC Prosecution Service approved the charge against Danny Anthony Sirvio, 57, of Sicamous in relation to the death of his uncle, Wayne Sirvio. Police say the body of Wayne Sirvio was found on a rural property on Aug. 5, 2023, three days after a missing person report was filed and a search warrant was executed.

Ten trees in a park were chopped down recently by vandals. That's according to the City of Kelowna, which is seeking the public's help in identifying those involved. The city said the vandalism was reported through its service request system. Holding signs and umbrellas, the protesters told Global News they hope the demonstration leads to government help in reversing the co-operative's abrupt closure. "We just want some answers," protest organizer and farmer Kelly Wander said, noting the closure is happening as summer crops are being harvested.
