UPDATE: June 16 One person was taken to hospital following a house fire on Jasmine Road in Rutland, just before 4 p.m., June 15. According to Assistant Fire Chief Shawn Wudrich, the blaze was knocked down with an initial exterior attack by the first arriving engine, preventing further extension and damage to the residence. Two residents were at home at the time of the fire, and one was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

Watch out Canada, there's a new tennis prodigy on the block. Gabriel Diallo, the 23-year-old Montreal native, won his first-ever ATP tour title on Sunday, June 15, defeating Belgian Zizou Bergs 7-5, 7-6 (8). The win, at the ATP 250 Rosmalen Grass Court Championships in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands was the biggest of Diallo's career. “It’s something that you dream of for your whole life, to win an ATP Tour title,” Diallo said in his post-match interview. “It means the world to me.

A slice of life in Vernon was captured on the first official day of Spring. The Vernon Photography Club (VPC) recently completed a unique project to capture a day in the life of Vernon. On March 21, the first official day of Spring, 23 photographers canvassed Vernon, Coldstream and Silver Star to depict what life is like in the area. From all the photos submitted, a video was created showcasing the diverse styles of the photographers.

Students from Kelowna's Rutland Senior Secondary were praised on social media for quick thinking after finding an abandoned campfire. Okanagan Forest Task Force President Kane Blake made the post, stating the forestry class was assisting with a clean at the Postill Shooting Range on June 11. According to Blake, the fire "had started to travel along the ground into the roots of cedar trees." The students alerted task force members to the blaze and the fire was extinguished.
