    With the Victoria Day long weekend just around the corner, BC Ferries says they are “summer ready.” The company anticipates carrying over 9 million passengers and nearly 4 million vehicles over the summer season, building upon last year's record-breaking numbers between May 15 and Sept. 2, 2024. “We’re operating in a more complex environment – aging ships, increased demand, and busy terminals all put pressure on the system,” said Stephen Jones, vice-president of engineering.

    A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Westside Road Tuesday afternoon. The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision in the 11000 block of Westside Road around 3:45 p.m. May 13. Police officers, ambulances and the local fire department responded. An investigation determined the  motorcycle was travelling north when it entered a speed wobble and crossed the centre line, colliding head-on with a pickup truck.

    Penticton's BCHL franchise is looking for a new home. In March, it was announced the city's Junior A hockey club would be on the move to another market in the wake of the Penticton Vees joining the Western Hockey League (WHL) as an expansion franchise. The BCHL confirmed that's still the plan, as of May 14, even though it has yet to strike a deal on relocation.

    It was all fun and games for a good cause at Kelowna's Stuart Park on Thursday, May 8. There wasn't a cloud in the sky as first responders from the Kelowna RCMP, Kelowna Fire Department (KFD), City of Kelowna by-law officers, and BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) competed in the third annual Mental Health Games. The purpose of the games is for all involved to have fun in a friendly competition while bringing awareness to the mental health of first responders.

    Despite an "incredibly difficult and exhausting" day for Vernon's Shanda Hill, the ultra athlete is more than 57 kilometres into the final leg of her Ultra Deca triathlon. Hill has completed the 38 km swim and 1,800 km bike ride, with 'just' 365 km of running left in the Brazil Ultra Tri Deca race. She is the sole woman competing.
