    A man who was high on meth and armed with a sword when he approached a woman stopped in her car at a Kamloops intersection has been ordered to spend 10 days in jail. Elias Joseph Thompson, 27, was sentenced Thursday in Kamloops provincial court after pleading guilty to two counts of breach of probation. A woman pulled up to the intersection of Kyle Drive and Westsyde Road at about 6 a.m. on June 7, 2024, when she was approached by a man brandishing a weapon.

    A Kamloops man who carried his girlfriend away like a sack of potatoes, taking her against her will to his house in the middle of a “very toxic” breakup, has been ordered to take counselling and pay $1,500 in restitution. Kristopher John Alexander Kassis, 40, was sentenced Thursday in Kamloops provincial court after pleading guilty to charges of assault and mischief under $5,000. Court heard Kassis and his then-girlfriend were arguing at her house on Jan. 27.

    The judge wants prosecutors to pick up the pace in the trial of a Kamloops lawyer charged with first-degree murder in the death of his client. Butch Bagabuyo, 57, is standing trial on one count of first-degree murder, accused of killing his client, 60-year-old Mohd Abdullah. According to prosecutors, Bagabuyo and Abdullah conspired in 2016 to hide $774,000 from Abdullah’s ex-wife during their separation.

    Forged banking documents were found by police inside the home of a Kamloops lawyer who is now on trial for the murder of his client, a judge has been told. Butch Bagabuyo, 57, is standing trial in B.C. Supreme Court. He is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his client, 60-year-old Mohd Abdullah.
