    HONOLULU (Island News) -- The University of Hawaii Athletics Director could become one of the highest-paid state employees in the Islands. UH Board of Regent and former Governor Neil Abercormbie said at its meeting Thursday that if the university wants to attract a viable candidate it must offer a base salary of at least $500,000. This would not include incentives which could add more than $100,000 more to the new ADs compensation package.

    HONOLULU (Island News) -- Oahu Mexican Grill is opening its third restaurant on Oahu in the Honolulu neighborhood of Kakaako. A Ward Village spokesperson has confirmed to Island News that the popular Mexican restaurant is expected to open in the fourth quarter of this year in a ground floor space of its Aalii condominium. Oahu Mexican Grill, known by many as “OMG,” filed public documents this week to build out its new space. The estimated value of work is about $750,000.

    HONOLULU (Island News) -- A new 7-Eleven store is likely opening in the former Longs Drugs store building in the Honolulu neighborhood of Liliha. Island News has learned that the convenience store giant has filed public documents this week to open a new store at the 3,156-square-foot building that occupies about 14,200-square-feet of land. Seven-Eleven Hawaii purchased the property at 1748 Liliha Street last September for $4 million, according to tax records.

Company officials in charge of Oahu's first Sonic restaurant tell Island News that it is hoping to break ground on its Kapolei location in April. This timeframe sets up a tentative opening date to later this year or early next year.

    KAPOLEI, Hawaii (Island News) -- Sonic Drive-In is getting closer to opening its first Oahu restaurant. Island News has learned that the Oklahoma-based fast-food giant has filed public documents this week, signaling that the project is moving ahead. Sonic Drive-In Hawaii, an entity managed by Edwin Prather, has filed grading permits for its first Oahu location at the corner of Fort Barrette Road and Kapolei Parkway across from Kapolei High School.
