A new Growing Together Gardening Club is staging an opening event on Thursday June 5 at the Sleights Surgery community garden. Run by Sleights & Sandsend Medical Practice in partnership with Whitby Area Development Trust, the aim is to help local people achieve a connection with nature to support physical, emotional and social health. Call in on our open event between noon and 2.30pm, to find out about the project and consider registering for weekly supported taster sessions across the month.

The Charity Variety Show is on at Eighteen91 – formerly Chapel on the Hill, on Whitby’s Brunswick Street – on Saturday June 28, and features Doble Fuego, who specialise in fire eating and body burning to actually breathing fire - a showstopper for any event.

Organisations in Scarborough have welcomed funding from the first phase of the Mayor’s High Street Fund which aims to “breathe new life into town centres” across the county. Eighteen projects across North Yorkshire, including two in Scarborough, have been awarded funding from Mayor David Skaith’s High Street Fund and will receive “targeted investment to support initiatives designed to increase footfall and community engagement”.
