HUNSLET have doubled down on their criticism of Salford Red Devils over the departure of Australian forward Kobe Rugless. After Rugless made a two-week loan move to Salford last week, Hunslet released a statement accusing the Super League side of negotiating a deal without their knowledge. But following Rugless’ Salford debut in a defeat to Hull FC, Red Devils coach Paul Rowley hit back by describing their comments as “grossly inaccurate”.

LONDON ROOSTERS staged a magnificent comeback to hold HALIFAX PANTHERS to a 40-40 draw in the opening round of the Wheelchair Super League season. The fixture was a repeat of the previous weekend’s Challenge Cup final, won 46-24 by Halifax. A feature of London’s route to that game was second-half fightbacks against both Wigan, in the quarter-finals, and Leeds in the semis.

JOE BATCHELOR will endure yet another period on the sidelines after being ruled out for around four weeks with a calf tear. The back-rower suffered the injury in St Helens’ victory at Salford Red Devils last Sunday. He has only made eight appearances so far this season and the Salford game was his first back from an eight-week lay-off with a hamstring issue suffered in the Good Friday derby. Batchelor was limited to 19 appearances last season, and 17 in 2023, due to various injuries.

DARYL POWELL has saluted Leigh Leopards owner Derek Beaumont for supporting a children’s cancer charity by undertaking a bike ride. Wakefield Trinity coach Powell recently revealed that his one-year-old grandson, Clarke, was undergoing treatment for leukaemia. When Wakefield and Leigh played last Sunday, money was raised for the charity Candlelighters, who have been supporting Clarke and the family.
