A man who drove home from a court that had just banned him from driving has been sentenced again. Matthew Testa, 51, from Whalley, Lancashire, was disqualified from driving for six months, during a hearing at Harrogate Magistrates Court on December 18, 2024. Testa was warned by the court not to drive from that moment onwards.

A father-of-two was fatally shot in the head in Sheffield, sparking a major police investigation that has now led to a sixth man being charged in connection with his murder. Kevin Pokuta, a 19-year-old father-of-two, he was shot on Page Hall Road in the early hours of Tuesday, December 12, 2023Kevin died the following day, in hospital, after a single bullet wound to the head.

A driver who killed a nine-year-old girl after running a red light in Halifax has been jailed, as her grieving family said he “destroyed” their daughter. On July 8, 2023, Qadeer Hussain, 55, was driving a black Vauxhall Corsa down King Cross Street, in Halifax, towards the town centre. Hussain failed to stop at a red light when he hit 9-year-old Alice Williams. Alice was taken to hospital with critical injuries and died a few days later.

The fire was initially a 2km long blaze that required eight crews to tackle.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 71-year-old woman died in a crash on the M1 near Barnsley. At 9:23am on Thursday (May 1), police were called to a serious crash between junction 36 and 37 on the M1 southbound, near Barnsley. It is understood that a grey Volvo XC40 hit the central barrier of the motorway and left the carriageway. Emergency services attended, and despite their best efforts, a 71-year-old woman died at the scene.

More than a dozen fire crews have been called to action to tackle a moorland fire in Ripponden, spanning two kilometres. At 12:15pm on Thursday (May 1), West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service responded to reports of a moorland fire near Oldham Road. The fire was a 2km long blaze that required eight crews to tackle. Crews from Slaithwaite, Halifax, and Todmorden were the first to be sent with specialist wildfire equipment including 2 all-terrain Argocat vehicles.

West Yorkshire Police has launched an investigation after the bodies of a man and a woman were found in a Leeds flat. At 8:35pm on Tuesday (Apr 29), police received a call about concerns for a woman living in a flat on Dawlish Road, Leeds. Police said the woman was living in a flat in multiple occupancy accommodation at the location. Officers attended and, upon gaining entry, found the body of a woman and also the body of a man inside. Police said both had “sustained injuries”.

Police have launched an appeal for information after a 75-year-old motorcycle rider died following a crash in Malton. At around 3:40pm on Wednesday (Apr 30), North Yorkshire Police received reports of a crash near Malton. The incident occurred on a minor road between Coulton and Yearsley, involving a red Triumph motorcycle. Prior to the crash the red Triumph was heading towards Hovingham, in company with a blue Aprilia motorcycle which stopped at the scene.
