The next lead administrator for the county starts on Jan. 1, 2025. Assistant County Administrator Barry Spivey was promoted to the top role during a meeting Tuesday evening. He will be replacing Steve Gosnell, whose contract ends in December 2024. Previous reporting shows that this new role is the highest paid county employee, with Spivey’s predecessor making $253,000 last year.

TRAVERSE CITY — A Grand Traverse County-wide system outage was reported early on Wednesday morning, according to officials in a media release. Law enforcement from the Traverse City Police Department and the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office said their computer systems were also down as a result of the internet irregularities. The cause of the outage was unknown as of 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The police report is being forwarded to the Grand Traverse County Prosecutor’s Office requesting a misdemeanor of one count of failure to stop and identify at a traffic crash.

TRAVERSE CITY — A bar fight at a downtown spot ended up with the suspect swimming away from law enforcement. On Sunday night at 12:32 a.m. a security guard from Encore 201, the Front Street dance club, called law enforcement alleging a 28-year-old Traverse City man was trying to start a fight with other patrons. According to police reports, the man threw a baston — a martial arts weapon — at another guest and made verbal threats.
