In January of 2000, an extraordinary winter storm brought record-breaking snowfall in what was a wild onset to a new era for the Triangle. It’s a phenomenon we haven’t seen since and may never see again. Intense snowfall, strong winds and waist-high accumulation were all parts of a rare blizzard that many were astonished to see. Friday is a WRAL Weather Alert Day because of the storm risk across central North Carolina. The worst of the threat comes in the evening, according to the WRAL Severe Weather Center.
