The housing crisis is here. This is not hyperbole. It is estimated that Rhode Island residents are facing a 24,000-unit affordable housing shortage. In fact, the latest AARP LTSS (Long-Term Supports and Services) Scorecard ranked Rhode Island 51st in the nation – dead last – when it comes to housing availability for older adults. The need to take decisive action could not be more urgent. Rhode Island lawmakers must address the state’s housing shortage.
Frasers Group ups stake in Hugo Boss

According to documents filed today, Frasers Group now owns 1.7m shares of common stock, representing 2.47% of Hugo Boss's total share capital. It also now has 9.8m shares of common stock via the sale of put options, representing 13.92% of Hugo Boss's total share capital. The investment brings its total share in the company to €360m (£305m). Hugo Boss is stocked in Frasers Group's Flannels and House of Frasers fascias.

The shop, which spans 2,499 sq ft, will hold its latest event and ready to wear collections alongside shoes and accessories. The store also houses the petite collection, Phase Eight Childrenswear, bridal, bridesmaid and Collection 8. The opening is the latest stage of the business's retail expansion strategy, which launched last year with 13 stores across the UK and Europe. With further store openings in key locations such as Bury St Edmunds, Dublin, Glasgow and Hamburg planned for later this year.
Boohoo scraps bonus payouts for bosses

Bonuses which were going to total £1m were waived by CEO John Lyttle and co-founders Mahmud Kamani and Carol Kane. The Times reported this weekend that some shareholders were unhappy with plans to proceed with payouts to the trio following widening losses at the retailer. According to a statement issued by Boohoo Group on Tuesday 28 May, the business has withdrawn plans to do so after engaging with certain shareholders, ahead of its AGM on 10 June.

Retail sales suffer in April

The figures, which cover the reporting period from 31 March to 27 April 2024, found that sales volumes fell across most sectors, with clothing retailers suffering as “poor weather reduced footfall”. Non-food stores sales volumes (the total of department, clothing, household and other non-food stores) fell by 4.1% in April 2024. This was the joint largest fall (shared with December 2023) since January 2021.
