The simulated scene inside the Capt. Robert L. Martin Terminal at Dubuque Regional Airport on Thursday was not a pretty one. Nine people lay on the ground between the tables and chairs in the terminal’s waiting area, many portraying serious injuries. Outside the windows, lights flashed as a line of ambulances arrived and paramedics hurried into the terminal with stretchers and gurneys.

Hugo Sewell wants a children’s museum in Dubuque. The 3-year-old Dubuque resident thinks it would be a fun place for him and his 10-month-old sister, Eliza, to play. ST. DONATUS, Iowa — Today, hundreds of people will arrive at St. Donatus Catholic Church for the outdoor Way of the Cross, an annual Good Friday tradition in the small Jackson County community. After a service with prayers and Scripture readings, the crowd of worshippers will make its way up the hill behind the church. As they travel upward, the attendees will take turns carrying a large wooden cross, stopping for reflection at stations that represent moments in the final hours of Jesus’ life.

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — Platteville School District officials have announced the next principal of the district's early learning center. Laura Rhode will take the helm of Neal Wilkins Early Learning Center beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, according to a press release. The release states that Rhode has 20 years of experience in the educational field and currently serves as a literacy and instructional coach for the Dodgeville (Wis.) School District, a role she has held since 2016.

A Hempstead High School social studies teacher will become an assistant principal at the Dubuque school. Curt Deutsch will assume the assistant principal position for the 2025-2026 academic year, following approval by the Dubuque Community School Board at its meeting Monday. He will replace Karla Schwaegler, who announced her retirement earlier this year after 27 years with the district.

Dubuque Community Schools officials are slightly increasing the district’s tax levy rate for the coming fiscal year, and homeowners will see an increase in the school district portion of their property taxes. School board members on Monday voted unanimously to approve a $183.7 million certified budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1.
