    The Telegraph Herald sports department is in the process of collecting nominations for our annual Scholar-Athlete Teams, which will run next month. The honor teams have become a popular staple in our summer lineup and one of the largest-scale projects we tackle each year. Each year, hundreds of student-athletes from the tri-state area meet the standards for the squad. Nominations are due June 1, and we tentatively plan to announce the teams throughout the month.

    DYERSVILLE, Iowa — Dave Galbenski couldn’t imagine a better way to celebrate the inaugural “Wanna Have A Catch Day” than a special event at the Field of Dreams movie site. The National Day Calendar recently declared the second Saturday each May as “Wanna Have A Catch Day.” So, the Living Liver Foundation, Transplant Life Foundation and Iowa Donor Network decided to launch the new national day by hosting the Living Donor Awareness Softball Game at the Field of Dreams movie site.

    Jordan Stanton delivered a dominant performance when the University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team needed him the most this weekend. The junior right-hander from Hazel Green, Wis., helped the Pioneers clinch a spot in this weekend’s Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament with a 3-1 win over No. 2-ranked UW-Whitewater on Saturday.

    Dryden Allen apologized for not being immediately available when the United States Hockey League announced him as its Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Wednesday morning. Appropriately, he was right in the middle of taking an English exam. Allen became the third straight Dubuque player and fourth in five seasons to earn the award, following Denver University’s James Reeder last season, Harvard University’s Lucas St. Louis in 2023 and the University of Minnesota’s Connor Kurth in 2021.
