    CARLOW College hosted its 13th Annual Literary Awards and Creative Writing Showcase in Visual recently. The annual event gathers together the college literary community for a night to recognise and celebrate the creative writing talent of its students, with awards presented for best in prose and poetry writing over the past year. This year’s awards were presented by the poet Victoria Kennefick, who is 2025 Arts Council of Ireland/Trinity College Dublin Writer Fellow.

    FOLLOWING an incident in the Hillbrook Estate in Tullow at 10pm on Saturday 29 March, the detective unit in Carlow Garda Station is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying two men who attempted to flee the scene in a small, red Mitsubishi Colt. From information received gardaí state that the car appears to have caught fire in the estate as it drove away, forcing its occupants to flee on foot.

    WELL-known artist Rennie Buenting will host a solo exhibition of her work called Multiplicity in Teach Bhride, Tullow next month. Rennie, who has produced a series of work based around the kiln at the former sugar factory in Carlow, will exhibit a wide range of her work, including painting, linocut, silkscreen, etching, monoprint, ink and charcoal drawings. A variety of subjects from landscapes, local buildings, her response to poetry and more are all featured in her work.

    TIME FLIES and no-one knows that better than Borris man John Cummins!Not only did John celebrate his 70th birthday last week, he also marked his 50th year working for a candle factory in the village. John started work in what was then called Boramic Candles, but is now known as Torc Candles, on 1 April 1975, having decided to give it a go for a short while.
