MORE THAN 1,000 people got out of bed early and walked from darkness into a breaking dawn on a recent Saturday morning in Carlow town for the annual Darkness Into Light walk. The worldwide event raises money for the charity Pieta House, which raises awareness of suicide and suicide prevention.

THIEVES have targeted another Japanese-imported car in Carlow town after gardaí issued a warning to car owners that these particular models are vulnerable to theft. Last week, a garda spokesperson told that Toyota Vitz and Aqua cars were being targeted by criminals because they are easy to break into and steal because they don’t have factory-fitted immobilisers in them.

A SPATE of crimes were committed by a lone male in New Oak Estate, Carlow in the early hours of Sunday morning, with seven cars and a house being burgled while a car was also stolen. The suspect arrived at the estate on an e-scooter at 3am on Sunday morning and rifled through seven cars, stealing various pieces of property, including a set of house keys. He then used those keys to gain access to the house where the car was parked, took the car keys out of the house and stole the car.
