    Mrs. Phala Nail is turning 106 years old next week and has been a proud resident of Panola County her entire life. Now living at Panola County Nursing and Rehabilitation, her legacy of love for her family and community is echoed with a parade in her honor on May 16. Born Phala Mae Morris in 1919, she is the eldest of ten children and was delivered at home, in the Murvaul area. Taking care of her younger siblings, her parents farmed the land of rural Panola County.

    The Carthage Courtesy Club put on a highly attended and lively Cinco De Mayo celebration on Saturday. Complete with mouthwatering food, a bouncy house, and vendors, the second annual celebration was a hit. Hundreds of families came through the event and enjoyed unique dishes from a variety of food trucks. Despite the busy weekend, Cinco De Mayo was celebrated by the Panola County community.

    In Panola County, the National Day of Prayer was celebrated with thoughtful words and collaborative prayer. Community spiritual and church leaders of various congregations and branches of Christianity banded together as the Panola County Ministerial Fellowship to strengthen faith. Reverend David Kennedy, of Rehobeth Methodist Church and president of the Panola County Ministerial Fellowship, welcomed attendees to the event.

    The Carthage Rotary Club has become one of many clubs across the country to open a blessing box, located in Turner Park, the community is welcome to take or donate nonperishables, toiletries, and other items. Club president Charde Sloane shares that she chose the box as her project for this year. According to Sloane, the Blessing Box is an emblem of compassion, unity, and the enduring spirit of service that defines Rotary.
