The state Legislature is supposed to adjourn after passing a new two-year budget. That’s not going to happen this year. A special session will be needed to complete the task because lawmakers are still navigating the remaining sticking points and political obstacles.

    45 years ago, five women opened a small bookstore in White Bear Lake, called Lake Country Book Sellers. Over the years, the store has seen the ups, downs, and enormous changes in the book selling industry. It’s become one of the oldest all women-owned bookstore in the state.     The ACLU of Minnesota and Education Minnesota have filed separate suits against St. Francis Area Schools over a library book policy. The policy requires books in school libraries be filtered through a book rating site, Book Looks, which is backed by conservatives. The school board approved the policy last fall. The lawsuit from the ACLU of Minnesota was filed on behalf of two parents of students in the district.

Tim Walz declared the COVID-19 pandemic a peacetime emergency. Unmasked and unaware of what was to come, Walz announced that day that cases had increased from nine to 14 from the previous day. That has turned into 1.9 million cases in Minnesota as counted by the health department. And the deaths of more than 17,000 Minnesotans.
