DMV offers extended hours ahead of REAL ID deadline

Starting Monday, some Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offices around Southern California will open an hour earlier to help people get their REAL ID ahead of the May 7 deadline. Many are still in need of the updated ID despite multiple deadline extensions over the past several years. A REAL ID will be needed to fly domestically otherwise, a passport will be required.

A toxic algal bloom leaving an increasing number of marine mammals stranded along Southern California beaches shows no signs of subsiding and “will only get worse,” officials said Monday. “This week, we saw more stranded dolphins (both alive and deceased) than we saw during the major domoic acid (DA) bloom in 2023,” Marine Mammal Care Center Los Angeles posted on Facebook.

Since Monday, many have been wondering if he would testify in his defense, but shortly before he walked into court Tuesday morning it was announced he would not take the stand and the defense decided to rest the case. Rocky, whose legal name is Rakim Mayers, told the judge he made the decision not to testify in the final phase of the case.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is expected to proclaim a local emergency at the beleaguered Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall on Tuesday. According to the board, the emergency proclamation will activate the county’s “emergency powers” to increase staffing and address problems that are at the root of the Board of State and Community Corrections’ recent directive to close the facility by Dec. 12.

They were all treated to a new bicycle thanks to the Los Angeles Chargers and former Chargers linebacker and “America’s Got Talent” host Terry Crews. A San Fernando Valley man charged with slapping an autistic child at a bus stop is set to appear in court on Monday. Scott Sakajian was charged with willful cruelty to a child and battery on a person by the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office in connection with a July 1 incident involving 10-year-old Alfredito Morales. The boy had touched the emblem on Sakajian’s Mercedes-Benz sedan while Alfredo and his older sister Claudia were crossing the street.
