POTSDAM — Frank A. Revetta, the north country’s preeminent voice on earthquakes and geophysics for more than half a century, died Sunday. He was 96. Revetta mapped the subterranean gravity patterns of New York and Pennsylvania over his career, nurtured a growing geology program in Potsdam, and was a teacher and friend to anyone. His beloved astronomy shows at the SUNY Potsdam planetarium continued until the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020. The planetarium, which bears his name, turned 60 this year.

The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office lifted a travel ban Saturday morning due to damaged roads and bridges in the county, but left a travel advisory in place. “There are many roads in the county that are impassable,” the alert reads. “Most roads with flooding or traffic hazards have been marked with signs or cones. Jan. 15—DEXTER — The lingering lake-effect conditions on Monday temporarily diverted a daily Philadelphia-to-Watertown flight and canceled another, airport officials said. The first American Airlines flight on Monday from Philadelphia International Airport to Watertown International Airport was hampered by poor visibility on the approach to Jefferson County, Watertown aviation director Grant W. Sussey said Monday evening.
