SOUTH KINGSTOWN – In late March, when boys lacrosse teams were still finalizing their rosters, North Kingstown shut out South Kingstown 5-0 in a scrimmage. It didn’t count for anything in the standings, but that was the Rebels’ starting point in a new division. On Friday, the two teams played again, this time in the Division I quarterfinal with everything on the line – unofficially dubbed the South County championship. The Rebels won 8-7 in overtime.

No. 3 South Kingstown had the upper hand on No. 2 Cumberland, but the Clippers got the job done with their backs against the wall to eliminate the Rebels from the Division I playoffs. The Clippers needed to win twice while the Rebels needed to win just once to reach the state-final series. Cumberland took Sunday’s game at Old Mountain Field by the slimmest of margins in a 3-2 final.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – When South Kingstown’s girls lacrosse team beat Burrillville in the regular season, it required a late comeback and featured the most combined goals in any Division II game all year. The playoff rematch last Thursday followed a different script. No. 4 South Kingstown scored first and hunkered down on defense, never giving up the lead. The Rebels beat No. 5 Burrillville 13-7 at Curtis Corner Middle School, advancing past the D-II quarterfinal. “There was just a different level.
