SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Tied with Smithfield in the fifth inning at Old Mountain Field, South Kingstown’s Nick Vellone dived headfirst into second base while advancing on a wild pitch and appeared to injure his right shoulder. After remaining on the ground for about three minutes as the trainer and coaches stood over him, Vellone got up and stayed in the game.

WARWICK – There hasn’t been an RIIL boys volleyball team on the same level as North Kingstown so far this year. A pair of big wins last week confirmed that. Current No. 2 seed Cranston East won a set off the Skippers last Tuesday, but NK beat them 3-1 to bring on the midway point in the spring calendar. The Skippers followed it up with a 3-0 victory over a strong Hendricken team two days later to reach double-digit league wins. They swept a struggling Cranston West team on Tuesday.

NARRAGANSETT – A hot start by Narragansett’s baseball team gave way to a team-wide batting slump that lasted four games. Facing Prout on Sunday in a twice rain-rescheduled rivalry contest, the Mariners regained form. Narragansett beat the Crusaders 9-4 at a windy Sprague Field, earning a key win after losses in three of their last four games.

NARRAGANSETT – The Narragansett girls lacrosse team has played a few close games during this year’s transition to Division II, but the young roster hasn’t found a way to break through yet. Last Thursday’s game against Mt. Hope was the closest the Mariners have come to a D-II win, but a late comeback fell barely short. The Huskies left Zepp Field with their first win of the season, beating Narragansett 13-12. The Mariners fell to a 2-5 record that dropped to 2-6 with a loss on Monday.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – A year ago, the South Kingstown and Narragansett softball teams played each other with a Division II playoff spot on the line. The teams are now in different divisions. It gave Monday’s rivalry contest – the second meeting in 2025 between the Rebels and Mariners – a much more relaxed feeling. The Rebels put up a season-high 19 runs while holding the Mariners to 11 at the Broad Rock Athletic Fields.

Some winter sports news: Kyle Bodington stepped down today as coach of the NK boys basketball program after four seasons. He helped guide the Skippers through the post-Aaron Thomas years, and the team improved every season after starting at an absolute low point. @NKBoosterClub

RT @ProutBBall: Strong run, congratulations to Charlie Horne on the 1,000 point milestone. #Crusaders @RIIL_sports @wpri12 @wpro @RibcaBa…
