As Waldameer kicks off their season, they are looking forward to a prosperous year, but tariffs are already causing concern. Steve Gorman, the Park President said, "Tariffs are going to hurt us just like every other business, some of our goods come from overseas, retail items and game items."It's not just items they are worried about, but international tariffs could lead to delay in production of future attractions.

Erie's oldest preschool is celebrating a big milestone this month. Covenant Preschool has been open for 75 years. Since 1949, hundreds of young boys and girls have walked through the doors of early childhood education center on Myrtle Street. As Lindsey Kerner, the Executive Director explained, "We have students that would come to this preschool by train.

Not even the rain or cold temperatures could keep people away from day one of Waldameer. The amusement park opened at noon on Saturday. People got a chance to ride on their favorite rides and try out some new rides this year, like the Time Twister. Park officials said staff got to ride it earlier this week and it was a hit. Visitors could also check out some new food stations and meal options at the Tasty Totter, formally the Potato Patch with new menu items including fish, shrimp, and sausage.

If you noticed a long line of vehicles on State Street on Saturday, it was for the annual City of Erie recycling event. Since 2013, the city has offered a free tire and electronic drop off for any resident living in the City of Erie. They have collected over 400 tons of tires and electronics over the past twelve years. Organizers said this program is a great way for Erie residents to dispose of old or unwanted items safely while helping the environment.

The Second Harvest Food Bank honored many organizations in our community on Wednesday for their dedication to fight hunger. The non-profit held their annual Bread Box awards where awards and certificates were presented to schools, religious organizations, small, and large businesses who contributed to the food bank and their mission this year. These organizations hosted food drives, collected money and raised awareness for the growing need of food insecurity in our region.

School will soon be out for summer and now is the time for students to start looking for summer jobs. Job fairs are a great first place for students to see what places are hiring and what positions are open. There are hundreds of roles waiting to be filled across Erie County and these fairs provide a first step of employment for both recruiters and new hires.
