    NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Some New Hanover County residents near the Port of Wilmington are reacting to the latest announcement by the State Department of Environmental Quality. After multiple citizen complaints, the DEQ announced earlier this week that Enviva Pellets, the wood pellet manufacturer’s storage and shipping facility on Turtle Dove Court, must develop a fugitive dust control plan – after DEQ identified that facility as the source of two substantiated fugitive dust complaints.

According to the American Journal of Transportation, there is a serious truck driver shortage in the U.S., and area educators are crafting ways to combat the problem. Southeastern Community College launched its Truck Driver Training Program in late 2023.

    WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Senator Thom Tillis was in Wilmington on Tuesday. He began his visit with a tour of the Port of Wilmington. Last year, Senator Tillis announced a nearly $11 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for improvements to the Port. That funding came from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law which Sen. Tillis helped write and pass into law.
