In response to ongoing concerns about reckless e-bike use, the city of Hailey has hired a Boise engineering firm to draft a new ordinance governing electric-vehicle travel on public rights of way, including the Blaine County Recreation District bike path. The Hailey City Council approved the $41,640 contract with Jacobs Engineering on Monday under a blanket motion as part of its consent agenda, without any discussion or public comment.

Quigley Farm developer David Hennessy is required to complete his long-planned $2.75 million recycled water plant by the end of 2025 under a $983,000 bond agreement that he signed with the city of Hailey last month. A man was killed and a woman seriously injured south of Carey on Monday evening after the vehicle they were traveling in rolled and caught fire, ejecting them, authorities said. The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office along with Carey Fire & Rescue, Hailey Fire & Rescue and BC South Fire Protection District were dispatched to the accident near milepost 198 on U.S. 26, near the Silver Creek bridge, at about 5:32 p.m., according to BC South Chief Ron Bateman.

The Hailey City Council today, Monday, April 14, will consider a code change that would allow developers to increase the height and scale of historic buildings in the city's original townsite in ways that are not currently allowed by code. The first reading of the ordinance is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. in Hailey City Hall. To take effect, it would need to pass second and third readings at future council meetings.

A Twin Falls man was ordered last week to complete a seven-year prison sentence followed by a three-year indeterminate period in custody after a judge convicted him on April 2 of felony DUI and felony eluding a police officer in a vehicle. Darrel E. McCabe, 62, will be eligible for parole after he completes his seven-year sentence at the Idaho State Penitentiary.
