If government takes money from your right pocket or left pocket, does it make a difference? I read a story this week about the City of Pocatello losing a grant from the federal government. It was canceled by the Trump White House. This is happening all over the country, and even with some state level grants. Local governments like grants from larger governments because they can hide the cost of projects.

A few years ago, a state legislator told me his niece was paying $1,800 monthly for an 850-square-foot, one-bedroom apartment in Boise. I can extrapolate when I look at my rental increases in Twin Falls and estimate that a one-bedroom apartment could now cost $2,500 a month in Boise. Idaho is mineral rich. Ridiculously rich in minerals according to mining engineer Darr Moon. He spoke to Newsradio 96.1 FM and 1310 KLIX and explained he managed to get a letter directly into the hands of President Trump, making a pitch to increase mining in the state (Moon’s wife is state Republican Chairwoman Dorothy Moon). Much of the mining could be accomplished on federal lands that are currently off limits.
